Match Confidence

Match confidence is an indicator of how closely two transaction records align across the fields used for matching — such as amount, date, reference, and description.

Full definition

Match confidence is a signal used to help categorize matched pairs by the strength of their alignment. A high-confidence match may have exact amount, exact date, and matching reference — leaving little doubt that the two entries represent the same transaction. A low-confidence match may share only amount or date proximity — indicating the pairing needs additional verification before it can be confirmed.

Why it matters

Not all matches are equal. A system that only reports 'matched' or 'unmatched' loses important signal about how reliable each match is. Match confidence helps finance teams prioritize their review — focusing human judgment on lower-confidence matches that carry more review risk.

Example

Two transactions match on amount ($3,400) and date proximity (within two days) but have different reference numbers — one shows 'INV-2241' and the other shows 'PMT-0094'. The match is flagged as medium confidence, prompting a reviewer to confirm whether these represent the same transaction.

How Certanexa helps

Certanexa surfaces match confidence signals alongside each matched pair — helping reviewers quickly identify which matches should be spot-checked and which can be accepted with less scrutiny.

Safe boundary: Match confidence is a review signal, not a final determination. Finance teams remain responsible for confirming all matched pairs.
